A Brief Overview Of Pepperdine Law School
When Pepperdine University decided that it would like to add a law school to the university in 1964, they chose to purchase the Orange University College of Law. The original campus was in Santa Ana, CA, but the campus moved to Anaheim, CA in 1973 and finally joined the main campus of Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA in 1978. Ever since 1975 Pepperdine Law School has been fully accredited and approved by both the ABA and the California State Bar. One of the most famous people associated with the Pepperdine Law School is Kenneth W. Starr, who has been the Dean of the school since 2004.
Pepperdine Law School offers a number of different degree and certificate options. They offer a Juris Doctor (JD), as well as a Master of Dispute Resolution, Master of Laws Dispute Resolution, and five joint degrees. Joint degrees include the Master of Dispute Resolution combined with a Master of Public Policy, and the Juris Doctor (JD) combined with either the Master of Business Administration, Master of Dispute Resolution, Master of Divinity, or Master of Public Policy. They also offer Certificates in Dispute Resolution and Law and Entrepreneurship.
Most law schools, Pepperdine Law School included, prefer that prospective students have a broad education, and major in something other than a law related subject when they do their Bachelor's degrees. A Bachelor's degree is a requirement for admission to law school, and Pepperdine Law School also requires applicants to submit their LSAT scores, two personal recommendations, a response to the mission statement of the school, the admissions application and fee, a resume and a personal statement. They must also sign up to be a part of the Law School Admissions Data Assembly Service (LSDAS), as their transcripts and recommendations must be submitted through this service in order for consideration of the school during the admissions process.
The estimates for the 2009-2010 academic year expenses for the Pepperdine Law School total $61,726. Of course the exact cost depends somewhat on a student's personal spending habits and whether or not they live on or off campus. The tuition is $39,280, and the SBA fees are $60. The other projected expenses include room at $13,170, board at $3,196, $980 for books, $1,608 for transportation, and $3,432 for personal expenses. Pepperdine Law School does offer a number of scholarships and grants to help cover these expenses, and it is also possible to get student loans to pay for law school.
