Finding Out More About Villanova Law School
One of the first Catholic law schools to receive the Order of the Coif, Villanova Law School was started in 1953. It is an ABA accredited law school that is located in Villanova, Pennsylvania, which is fifteen minutes from the center of Philadelphia. Since Villanova Law School is right on the Main Line, students have easy access to Philadelphia as well as 15 other universities and colleges.
Villanova Law School offers five different degree choices. Students can get their J.D., a combined J.D. and MBA degree, a J.D. combined with a Ph.D. in Philosophy, an LLM in Taxation, a combined J.D./LLM in Taxation, and a combined J.D./LLM in International Studies. The school only offers a full time program with students starting in the fall. During the summers, there is a study abroad program in Rome that students can attend in order to earn more credits. Those doing the combined J.D./LLM in International Studies can spend their third year studying in Rome.
Applications for Villanova Law School must be completed online. All applicants need to register with the LSDAS, and application materials can be submitted through this service. All transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be submitted, as well as a LSAT scores that are not more than two years old, a personal statement and a resume. References are not required but can be submitted if the applicant so desires. There is a $75.00 application fee, and applications must be completed by March 1st for acceptance in the following year.
Financial aid is available for U.S. students attending Villanova Law School, however, foreign students need to submit financial statements showing that they will be able to pay the full cost of attending as they are not eligible for this type of aid. For the 2009 to 2010 school year, tuition and fees came to $35,250 for first years, $34,850 for second years, and $34,430 for third year students. In addition, other expenses were estimated to be $1,400 for books and supplies, $14,850 for rent and food, $3,445 for misc. expenses, and $843 for loan fees.
One of the more well known alumni of Villanova Law School is David Worby. He is a personal injury lawyer who represents a lot of the people who have Ground Zero illnesses from their work after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He has founded a scholarship at Villanova Law School, and also a course in Advanced Trial Practice.
